MH>I am planning a trip to San Antonio the weekend of Jan 23.
MH>What is available in the way of Aviation Museums etc. Is
MH>the XM-99 (cargo version of B-36) still on display.
MH>Thanks in advance for the information.
Great place to view the old ones. Hwy 90 south of town take the
Lackland exit. When you are going southbound turn east into the Wilford
Hall Hospital area. The entire parade ground is an excellent viewing
area. If you then go to the west base you will find the newer A/C on
display F-4, F-5 etc. Go over to the Kelly side and somewhere around
the center of the base is a display area. While there ask about the XC-
99. The last time I saw it was there at the large hanger and it was
stripped of paint and they were working on it or planning to work on it.
Randolph has a display area to the left after you go in the main gate.
That would be the north side of the base. There only the ATC (Ops
pardon me AETC Air Education Training Command) aircraft are on display.
Have a great viewing trip. The Lackland one is the best
however.....Jim....
