 I haven't looked at serial comms under Win98 very closely (one of
the things I'll get around to eventually), but it's quite different
from DOS and Win31. The whole thing is streamed like the the ethernet
port, so what Brenton says is possible.

 So far as I can work out, under Win98 (and presuambly XPand NT),it's
all pretty-much the same thing.
