KB> Thank you. I appreciate the courage that it takes for one to stand up
KB> and be counted on this side of the issue. I'm sure there are others on
KB> here that have agreed with me but have keep silent because of how I
KB> was treated for what I said.
I imagine that I will get the same treatment, but it will not persuade me
to change my mind on the subject. As stated, I am behind you 100%.
KB> The whole thing bugs me. Creating an artificial market by buying up
KB> the available copies so that you can dole them out at your price keeps
KB> product out of the hands of families and people that can only afford
KB> the normal price. We have a whole generation of children that can't
KB> watch "The Little Mermaid" on home video because their parents were
KB> scooped by people who want to sell them for $150. Is it any surprise
KB> that the "Toy Story" Deluxe Edition Laser Disc retailed for $125 when
KB> Disney saw the prices others get for their videos? My videotapes of
KB> "Peter Pan" and "The Little Mermaid" were stolen right off of my person
KB> and sold for a huge price by thesde types of people. They were bought
KB> and paid for and well loved. Somebody who didn't love them stole them,
KB> waited, jacked up the price and made a small fortune. Why? Because he
KB> saw the prices some people charge and knew he could get it.
Exactly my point, but these people either don't understand that, or don't
care. Is that all that Disney has become? A way to make a profit? Right
now, I have 10 Disney videos in my collection, and 9 of them have and will
get repeat viewings (the 10th, "Gordy," is so terrible, I can't even GIVE
it away). When I bought the videos, I never had any interest in making
money off of them.
-> It's greed, pure and simple. I'm behind you all the way, Kit.
KB> Right. In America we like to make pure greed into a good thing and put
KB> a name on it like "Free Enterprise". As far as I'm concerned that
KB> should be the name of a Star Trek movie - not an excuse to make money
KB> off of something you don't own. Our free enterprise system has rules
KB> and laws that govern it. When people pay attention to those rules and
KB> laws they make a fair profit in a fair market. Otherwise they make
KB> vicitms. ->
Yeah...people go crazy w/ the Star Trek (and Star Wars) merchandise as
well, but those discussions should be reserved for the proper echos. :)
-> yet--do you have an Email address? If so, please contact me at
-> Keiko@pixelation.com.
KB> Of course I can do NetMail. Just address a message to Kit Ballantyne
KB> or SYSOP at 1:311/57.0. Internet E-Mail, however, is still cheaper (my
KB> NetMail system calls long distance to deliver my messages). My
KB> Internet E-Mail addresses are: KITB@WOLSI.COM and
KB> KIT.BALLANTYNE@KINGCOME.ORG. The first one sends E-Mail to my internet
KB> account and is 100% fast and reliable. The second one sends the E-Mail
KB> into my InterNet E-Mail echo on my BBS, takes longer to get to me
KB> through the delivery system and is not nearly as reliable.
Cool. Got it written down. Might be sending you some email in the next
couple of days. That would be better than netmail. The board that I get
this echo off of doesn't do Netmail, but another board I get other echos
off of does have it, but I don't know what my address is off-hand. I'm
waiting to get all the echos I read on that one board.
KB> I just want to say what a joy it is to watch classic Disney movies. It
KB> is a delight. I hope no one ever takes away that joy.
I agree. But, if things continue in the direction that they are, that joy
may just wither away and die.
