BTW, I just finished reading "Hope" BTW, and Bernie rambles on. I
don't think Deighton is ever going to end it. He just picks up the
story where he left it in the last book, and uses all his old
characters to reveal secrets they've been keeping from each other for
fifty years...

Charity will come Curly, Larry and Mo where all is finally revealed:
Silas Gaunt is actually Josef Stalin, Frank in Berlin is Goering, Aunt
Lisl is Mata Hari, Fiona works for the British SIS, the American CIA,
the German BVD, the Russian KGB, the Israeli Mossad, and the Apache
Indians under the code name Pocahontas. Gloria is Van Morrison in
drag. Bernie is of course the head of the Stasi and his father was
Adolph Hitler. Only Aunt Lisl knew for sure, but this secret will be
revealed in the next trilogy: Willy, Nilly and Bloody Silly.

  In fact, no one working for the British SIS actually works for the
British. This has been known since 1927 but the DG, being British, was
too polite to say anything about it.
