  Same here, I'm sure it has an affect on life, but can't really find any hard 
data to back this up.

  The maxtor datasheets quote a 500,000 power cycle life, which equates to well 
over a thousand years if you do it every day.  But I'm not sure if that 
requires translation similar to MTBF of a million hours, yet a service life of 
3 years.
