A 486 is already not too happy when its cache gets disabled, but
performance really starts to go down the drain starting with the Pentium.

He said 500 MHz, which makes it either at least a K6-2 (unlikely, though,
those models were hard to come by), a P3, or an Athlon. If it's
Intel-compatible, that is. ;)
