Insert eCS CD #2. on your WARP4, MCP or eCS 1.0 system.
read the migrate.txt in the root of that CD.
run migrate.cmd on the root of that CD until it tells you that the
system is ready for migration. Follow the instructions it gives you!
Maybe you have to boot and run migrate.cmd multiple times to get the
system ready for migration. When migrate.cmd tells you - but not prior
that:
Boot up from eCS 1.1 CD #1
After installation is done you'll find an folder named 'old desktop'.
Copy anything you likes from there onto the new desktop.
Thereafter you can remove that folder from your desktop.
Attention: Even as migrate is desigened to help you to migrate your
desktop to eCS 1.1 there is no warranty and no service for. But many
peoples have already reported that it is really well tested and was
working well for them.
As it is at least possible that the migration fails you should make a
backup of your system before you starts migrate.cmd the first time, e.g.
y: a drive that has enough free space to
hold a bit more than 50% of the used
space on the system drive
zip -9rS system x:\*
whereas x: is the drive letter of the running system.
In case the migration fails:
boot from installation diskettes/CD/maintenance partiton of the system
- format x: /FS:HPFS /L
x:
- unzip y:\system
brings the system back to the state you've saved it.
In case the migration succeds:
del y:\system.zip gives you the space back the backup had used
To increase the possibility that migrate.cmd succeeds you should run
checkini /C /T
prior to cleanup the INIs. As the migration has to work extensive with
the INIs it would be better to have them clean before you starts. You
can find checkini on HOBBES in wptool32.zip. Simply unpack it into an
empty directory of your choice and run it from there while the system
is active - but no application - but the network is up - is running.
When the installation is complete you can reactivate your SMP.
