  You're right.

  Some time back when the US senate passed law that made spamming legal (well, 
effectively legal anyway), spammers started putting that clause at the end of 
their spam.

  It made detection REALLY easy.  Just look for text that went along the lines 
of "this message complies with part whatever of section whatever paragraph 
whatever in the whatever bill of whatever year".

  They've since stopped that though, and begun on less legal methods.  Now they 
write portable mail transport agents that run in the background, and have joe 
blow install it on their machines instead.  Effectivly hijacking your PC and 
internet connection.  Always was illegal to do this, but hasn't stopped or 
slowed them down.
  I've read somewhere recently that +75% of all spam is now coming from these 
'zombie' PCs.

  How do they get in on your machine in the first place?  Easy.  They email a 
select few an executable called "bigtits.exe" and let the viral
code do the 
rest.  Spammers, like the porno industry, know their client base and adapt 
quickly to suit.
