The key phrase is, "appear to be". For Scripture simply does not
tell us what
the proportions of Gentile/Jew were, simply that clearly there were some of
each. Who, after all, among the Gentiles would "know the Law"? Yet he says:

   Do you not know, brethren--for I am speaking to those who
   know the law--that the law is binding on a person only
   during his life?  (Rom 7:1 RSVA)
