Well, if you want to be /really/ cheap, you can hook up a rear set of
speakers in what is called a haffler circuit (I believe) to produce a
sort of quasi-surrond sound.  I recommend you do this with a tough
amplifier (4€ if possible).  Don't turn it up too loud (more than about
30-40% of full power), or you might blow some internal fuses.

It's not as good as real dolby surround but gives a little better sound
than stereo alone.  Some l-pad volume controls may be useful in
regulating the rear channel volume.  You can also use a separate
amplifier if you have one lying around.  If you're short on speakers,
only one rear speaker is really necessary.
If you can build a subwoofer, those are nice too.
