In the old days, the R/G pair was the telephone line, the Y/B pair was
for the transformer that powered the light inside the old "trimline"
and "princess" phone sets. In the '70's, the light inside these phones
were changed to a green color and was powered by the dialtone, leaving
the Y/B pair free.
