If you think about it then, it's fantastic that you can get patches for all
software that comes as part of your Linux distro from the vendor - even
though they had nothing to do with writing the software. And you can
update all your software through one simple interface - automatically if
you like - wow!
If I pop Windows on a PC and install my standard suite of software (office
apps, PIM, CD burning, browser, e-mail etc, etc, etc) then I have to go to
a ton of different websites and manually download and install the patches
for every single piece of software I have installed.
At this point, if you leave the "who's responsible" debate to one
side, then Linux distro's have a real advantage here anyway.
