 GM> Hello Bat,

GM> Today, I ran the F-Prot anti virus program and got the following error
 GM> message:

 GM> C:\U\GG.BAT Infection: BAT/Backdarter.D

GM> When I looked at the infected file, it was to do with networking on
GM> the DOS box (I'm trying to network the DOS box to a WinXP box, but I'm
 GM> not there, yet)...

GM> I would like to post the batch file so that someone can tell me how
GM> this file contains a virus and how to decontaminate it, #_*BUT*_#, I
GM> don't want to propagate a viral infection to other systems.

GM> I am asking the moderator for permission to post it in three separate
GM> (that way, a user will have to work at extracting three messages to get
GM> it working) messages, in the hope that someone can tell me what
GM> commands in the batch make it an infected file and how I might fix it
GM> so I can carry on with my attempts to complete my networking...

 GM> Thanks ... Gerald

I would suggest you take it to a forum that specializes in viruses, or
take it up with the F-Prot folks. I don't want it posted here. We don't
purport to have any virus expertise, they do. Perhaps our BFDS coord.
Ben Ritchey, who moderates the Fido echo ANTI_VIRUS could offer his
advice. There are also the Fido echoes: VIRUS and VIRUS_INFO. Doubtless
there are even more such resources in the Use-Groups on the internet.
In any case, I don't want this to become a thread. Thanks for your
cooperation and understanding. Good Modeming! /\oo/\
Happy Holydays!
