1237daca57af tech Hello Pascal - CA>> I remember reading about magneto-optical years ago but not CA>> much recently. I guess the cost-per-megabyte isn't CA>> competitive enough right now but you are correct it seems CA>> CD burning is not good long-term archival storage. :-\ PS> Yeah, the cost-per-mb is not competitive compared to CD PS> prices, true, and the cost of the drives is another factor. PS> Most people around here wouldn't spend 300 Euros for a PS> drive, no matter how realiable the technology and how cheap PS> the discs are. Lots of people here have ZIP drives. There PS> the drive is relatively cheap, but the discs are expensive. PS> A 100M ZIP disc even costs more than a 640M MO disc. I iherited a zip drive in a W2K machine. The machine's OS was unstable and when I looked into the error logs it was the zipdrive software (like hundreds of error messages). I tried removing it entirely and that trashed the OS. Finally just removed all extra zipdrive software and left it in there. I don't like zipdrives - never did even before this one. Just the name IOMEGA sends shivers down my spine. > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ ___ * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ...
