DM> Maybe. Does your BIOS support LBA ? BL> Yes. BG> You're laughing, then. Giggle, giggle... BL> Do I need a special VLB board or just an ordinary one. BG> You don't actually NEED a special IDE controller though. You BG> could even use an old 8-bit ISA card if you were that way BG> inclined, but these days, you can pick up a 32-bit VLB EIDE BG> controller with 16550 UARTS (not that you'd actually see any BG> benefit, as you run an internal modem anyway), with primary AND BG> secondary HD controllers so that you can run up to four BG> separate EIDE devices, for under $25 (and that's RETAIL!). Ahh! That's what I wanted to hear. $25 is right in my price range... a slab of Carlton Cold on special at Jewel. BL> I need the VLB controller anyway to add CD. BG> Only if it's an ATAPI CD-ROM drive, and even then, you don't BG> need the secondary controller if you're only running one HD BG> (just slave the CD to your HD). Keith told me the CD's better on its own bus because it slows the hard drive. But anyway, I've got two hard drives and the CD makes three. Thanks for that, Bill. This is sounding pretty good. I could do the CD for $100 all up, and think about a $300 hard drive next. I can't believe it was only a year ago when I thought I'd never fill up 500Mb.
