Adam did, indeed die spiritually that literal day. However, the account
spoke of the fact that Adam was dust and would return to dust. This speaks
of literal death, not just spiritual. So how did his literal death occur
within a 'day'?
The Bible also says that "one day with the Lord is "as a thousand
years, and
a thousand years as one day." (2 Pet 3:8)
Adam lived to age 930, thus dying within one of God's days. Methuselah
lived the longest of any man, dying at age 969. Still within the 'day'.
Peace to you and yours.
