| subject: | Cheap RAM |
BL> When something is dumped by a manufacturer with excess capacity BL> (as this 16Mb RAM seems to have been), the price usually dips BL> rather than levelling off. I'll wait a fortnight to see if it BL> hits $150 or goes up to $250, but in any case I'll be amazed if BL> it ever sells much above $200 again. KR> i have no idea, you may as well put your money on the horses, KR> there more chance of predicting the outcome there (: The dip is predictable. It is caused by the time lag as sellers try not to get caught with expensive stock. In the end, they cut their margin to the bone and make it up later. That's if someone is dumping RAM. It's totally different than the price of hard drives for instance, where techology doubles size every 12 months but the price of the drive itself remains fairly constant. We should start to see a fall in actual hard drive prices soon; not just a doubling of capacity for the same price. Tell me... if I buy a big-motha hard drive, will a new VLB controller let me access the gigabytes without having to add a mangler? I need the VLB controller anyway to add CD. I notice that EIDE quad speed is down to $120 and I'm tempted.... Regards, Bob ___ Blue Wave/QWK v2.12 @EOT: ---* Origin: Precision Nonsense, Sydney (3:711/934.12) SEEN-BY: 711/934 @PATH: 711/934 |
