RS>clip the wings. I thanked him, but said I didn't like the wings clipped
and
RS>if I had problems, I'd do it later myself. I've done it on other birds
I've
RS>had.
Congratulations on the new baby! I'd strongly suggest keeping the
conures' wings clipped. They tend to get REALLY bossy if they are
allowed to fly around at will!
RS>imitate. It comes right to the edge of the cage and just begs for
attention
RS>and only hollers when it wants me to come over. If I'm out of the room it
RS>doesn't holler, but if I walk through or it hears my voice, it will. I
an
RS>put my hand up to the wire and it'll come over and very gently run it's
beak
RS>up and down my fingers and hand - hasn't offered to bite yet, thank
RS>goodness. It gets really scared when I put my hand in the cage, but did
RS>keep after it tonight until it got on my finger without realizing it and
RS>then it mouthed my fingers, but no bite! Took my hand out and did the
ame
RS>from outside the cage, so think it will be just fine.
Is it not a handfed baby? Why not just clip it and let it come out of
the cage?
RS>I took the lovebird
RS>to a local pet store though and traded him in on a peach-capped (?) conure
RS>I'd been seeing in there and it wanted attention so bad. Had been a
amily
RS>pet and they traded it for a quaker.
I'm not sure I understand any of the mindset behind trading in pet birds
for other birds... Once a bird is my pet, it's here for life. But
congrats on the addition of the peach-fronted!
RS> So I went from no conures to TWO in 2
RS>days. A friend brought over a whole stack of books to read, plus the
couple
RS>I'd gotten, so am on my way. Thanks again for all your help and I'll
till
RS>be reading and trying to learn from the conference!
2 conures--that's a good start! Soon you'll have enough! Keep
reading--there are some actually useful books out there these days.
"Conures" by Matthew Vriends is a small, fairly good basic conure book.
