On any given individual day, I wholeheartedly agree.  But if one is
attempting to follow a conversation, especially backwards, a consistent
thread is very nice.  Without one, it becomes nearly impossible to
follow or have an ongoing conversation.  Especially if there are more
then two parties involved.
