Considering that you don't suffer from corrosion, a gas tight connection, 
metal to metal is the best. One that is comprised of the least amount of 
devices is always the best, so, being sans spades or banannas is the best. 
Have you considered silver soldering the ends of the wire? Just a thought. 
Something like Wonder solder should do the trick.
