subject: CHH connect stats

BG> Not any more, which makes me suspect that all was not well
BG> with the Sportster with its 2nd V.34 ("SDS-fix") EPROM.

Dunno, the other possibility you havent excluded is that your home line
is just rather indifferent, rather worse than the one you used for the
testing at CHH. In fact we have independent evidence, the stats when
Russ calls you, that your line is one of the worst we have stats for.

And its quite conceivable that the Sportsters handshaking capability
isnt anything special to other than another USR, on a line like that.
And that they have improved that somewhat with the new rom.

Corse, since your handshaking problems have been remarkably variable,
even to Paul, with the previous rom, its possible its just as variable
with the rom too and it hasnt even improved at all. Time will tell.

BG> This V.34+ chip is either unbelievably better,

Has anyone ever suggested to you that you do
tend to overstate things just a tad at times ? |-)

BG> or there really was a problem with the previous chip.

Or that the previous one wasnt as good on
indifferent lines with a non USR on the other end.

BG> This new one stick to the lines like shit to a blanket,

You dont KNOW that yet.

BG> and I'm now calling just about everywhere with no speed
BG> restrictions at all, and connecting at previously unheard of link
BG> rates. With EC as well. Most importantly, calls to both CHH modems
BG> now connect perfectly, even though the lines are still obviously shit.

Corse they will all go bad now you bragged about it |-)

Corse, if USR had had the sense to have a flashrom in the Sportster,
you wouldnt have had to fart around so much to get that benefit too |-)

BG> I'm not going to bother collecting stats any more,

I think you should, its the only hard numbers we have, even tho they
leave a lot to be desired when calling a non USR modem even now.

BG> but have a look at these before I piss them off (and note that
BG> although line levels haven't improved, the connect sure has).

Yeah, noticed the line levels. Odd.

I wouldnt be a bit surprised if the fact that the USRs get
brain fade on the line probe to a non USR modem is the reason
they dont do as well to non USR modems as they do to USR modems.
