I love your question.  I hope all is going well with your paper.  Mary
Baker Eddy the founder of Christian Science eludes in her book Science
and Health written in 1875 that spirituality or as she called it
spiritual sense.

"Spiritual sense is a conscious, constant capacity to un-
derstand God. It shows the superiority of faith by works
1	over faith in words. Its ideas are expressed only in "new
tongues;" and these are interpreted by the translation of
3	the spiritual original into the language which human
thought can comprehend. "

Therefor Buddists would hear the spiritual message in the language
which they can comprehend and Christians would hear it in the language
they can comprehend.  But for any spiritual thinker, spiritual sense
would be that conscious connection with the Divine.
