Although I've been away from it for awhile, Florida has instituted some
moritoriums on off shore drilling in the Gulf, mainly to protect
commercial fishing *(and, of course, the tourist industry) should there
be a spill.  Unfortuately, one of our more recent presidents signed some
permits before he was voted out of office ( he has oil wells himself),
but we are still fighting it.  I suggest you write to the state EPA in
Tallahassee, FL and to Florida PIRG (Public Interest Research Group),
2720 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, FL 32301.
