BL> Anyway, it seems to work. Minicom looks a hell of a lot like BL> Telix, and I'm tempted to see if I can use Linux on the BBS, BL> even though it will be a monumental waste of time. JB> It's only skin deep with minicom though, no salt scripting :( Yair... Telix salt script is *too* good. I'm beginning to understand the limitations of networking. Is there any way I can use the Windows computer as a simple terminal - to access the Linux modem? I hadn't realised that Samba merely gives access to files. Even with the printer, it's the Linux machine running it. What about a USB link? BL> I'm still happy to use Win311, but there is no video driver for BL> my new card. With Linux, nothing ever goes out of date and if BL> it does, you download the latest version free. JB> The latest version of Xwindows has no driver for my video JB> card... :( Yair... you have to give Linux about 5 years to catch up. JB> still this old PC is decidedly sluggish with this version of JB> linux... I was actually surprised that Xwindows was *slower* than real Windows98. Everyone told me how fast and wonderful Linux was... it's a slug! There seems to be a misrepresentation of Linux reliability and speed compared to Windows, when comparison with DOS would be more appropriate. As soon as you add Xwindows and a GUI like Gnome or KDE, Linux is actually slower and *less* reliable than Win8. I've spent a lot of time in Linux these last few weeks, both "native" and in the KDE GUI, and its' always a relief to go back to Windows.
