Not sure if this will work for you or not.
I share a printer but use a print server to do that. I don't know
what is available these days, the one I have is about 7 yrs old. I
assigned an ip address to it, the printer plugs into it. I run
lprportd under os/2 to access it and from Windows I set it up as a
network printer. I can't recall if I needed netbios on xp to do
this or not, I did need it for file sharing tho.
I have no idea what it would cost you to get a print server up and
running. If your printer happens to be network ready then maybe
you don't need a print server.
I know this is not what you are looking for, I'm tossing it out in
case it will work for you.
