Hinduism advocates that natural disasters are due to mass karma. "An
eye for eye ,and a tooth for a tooth" ( Moses Law) So in many
lifegtimes people accumulate enough bad karma (bad deeds) then Mother
Nature strikes back as result of it. The accumulations of bad deeds and
bad thoughts conform an aura or negative cloud that effects the earth's
subttle invisible energy. i.e. the destruction of Atlantis, the great
Noah's flood are examples of these phenomenon etc.

Now, in Christianity we believe in God's mysterious ways...  I
personally think that Satan, the evil force of creation is responsible
for all natural disasters. Satan is a fallen angel- given independence
from God as we also possess free will to choose good or evil. So the
devil is the author of calamity, not God.  If we  turn to God the
kingdom of Heaven will dispel the darkness and Satan will be defeated.
Satan feeds from peoples bad habits and  vices and He controls the
physical plane. As Jesus said: "get ye behind, Satan"
