| subject: | Christians rejoicing at T |
Big tsunami killed over 150,000. The biggest global disaster ever
reported this monsterous casulity level. Not sad, not appall,
I saw some American Christian just loved it. They believe
this disater is the sign of the second coming of Christ and then
they rejoiced it. why they rejoice in this horrible moment of
human suffering?
************
Nobody should be rejoicing. Christ would not have rejoiced over it.
When other people tried to paint the 18 killed in the collapse of the
tower of Siloam as sinners, Christ pointed out they were no worse than
the rest of the population. It was, you might say, just one of those
things.
As for the Second Coming, that is clearly unknown in time. I do
remember an atheist Australian journalist called Philip Adams who
wrote he had been invited as a guest speaker to a conference of
Fundamentalist pastors, the only people he wrote "who positively
looked forward to Armageddon".
If Armageddon is what I think it is going to be, nobody is going to
look forward to it, especially those who have to live with the
aftermath, Christian or otherwise.
Rejoicing in other people's suffering is usually a good way to get God
to give the rejoicer a dose of something worse. The Pharisees may
have rejoiced in Christ's suffering on the cross, but they've been
paying for it for the last 2000 years. Rejoicing in the German
nation's suffering after World War One brought down something worse on
the other nations (who had all participated in the arms race and
national pride which preceded it), and in turn German rejoicing at the
Jew's and the occupied territories' suffering brought the nation to
ruin, with 90% of its young man born in 1923 dead by 1945.
