  The memo fields are kept in a separate file, TM.MEM (or *.MEM, to use a

general filename).  If you have moved fields around using an external editor,
then these fields will almost always be out of sync.  Also, TM.FON has long
lines (over 80 columns).  If your editor is using Word Wrap, then you will
trash the file.  I usually just load TM.FON into Telemate's Edit Window if I
need to edit the file, with the Editor Margin set to 254.
  Also, check out TMPHONE.EXE.  It lets you sort, delete, print, etc, your
TM.FON files, and it knows about TM.MEM, which makes editing it a lot easier.
  The TM.MEM is a simple text file.  Each non-blank memo field gets its own
line in the file.  Each line in the TM.MEM file consists of the line number

the corresponding entry in TM. followed by a colon, followed by the actual
memo entry.  You'll see when you edit TM.MEM.
