subject: early El Nino spring ?

DD>TA>When should we start our peas and beans this year?
DD>Good question...the peas won't hurt to be a little early as the frost
DD>doesn't do them much damage, if any. Do you plant all your pea and
DD>bean seeds at one time or do you stagger them? If you do the latter,
DD>then you don't risk too much to take a chance on planting early. We
DD>are thinking of being ready to go early as well. We only plant green
DD>beans, tomatoes and peppers (sweet). What do you plant?
I plant the peas (most are consumed while I am working the garden 8-)
and beans about a week a part so that we have a stagered harvest for
the table.
I don't do peppers any more. Too much work for small return. I do
like to try my hand at broccolli. Most is done for fresh salads
once a day on our table.
For our friendly bees I have many dalhias, daisies, marigolds, sweet
williams and sunny annuals.
My secret pride is a grape vine (three sections), from cuttings I took
from the Ackerman homestead three blocks over; that my father enjoyed
as a boy, I enjoyed as a boy, our children enjoyed similarily and my
grandchildren (who make the fifth generations to live in the homestead)
enjoy when they visit.
Where do you live north of the 40th ?
Ciao, Ack.
