Thanks guys, but I've tried both these suggestions already.  I also heard
that you can reduce the size by switching the page layout to something
different like "letter" (probably the default in the US), saving
the doc, then switching back to A4 (our default over here), and saving
again.

These changes haven't made any difference though.  It's definately due to
the huge picture files in the documents.
