It's most definitely more adult.  ONe of the reasons it went off of 
FOX was because of Bender and his vices!

But, some where lame as well.  A good Simpsons was done and followed 
by a poor Futurama.  The next week, the opposite occured.

That was actually the voice-character's choice.  And, it was great 
episode!

It's all in the setting.  

As it is, with good writing, the Simpsons will forever be their 
ages.  (And that's varied episode by episode!)
