subject: dos box on modern network

Hello all!

I'm looking to pick some brains here, so please bear with me. My plan is
to eventually do dsl with router etc. running smoothwall. the plan is to
have one machine offer business web site, also make this bbs telnet
available.

We'll have a win98 machine of some type, its operating system may change,
another machine running debian which will also be part of this network. IT
will be occasionally used for audio transfers and other chores as well as
be the wife's business machine.

I've a compaq 133 mhz running dos 6.22 that I'd like to be able to tie into
this thing some kind of way without going to windows. NO cd-r drive in it
at the moment. One thought is to install a drive, wipe the operating
system and install slackware to take advantage of my doubletalk synthesized
speech. AS a blind person screen access is a priority. My problem wit
this approach is that slackware doesn't seem to be updated anymore these
days.
I also have a compaq 133 mhz laptop around, plan to add a
serial port speech synth to it.
THough I could move ham radio logging programs to it I'd still like to
keep all that in this machine and have some internet access from it without
playing the OS swap if at all possible.

what I'd like to be able to do is log onto this network using something
like a shell account, access my email etc. I could always play dummy point
off the bbs and move files to this machine and continue to use this
reader/editor combination which I like. any ideas how best to accomplish
this out there?

Btw it's still desirable to keep pots capability happening with the bbs as well.

Regards,
           Richard
