Well, You might be underestimating God's ability to be merciful. Which
is not in my mind sinning. I think that God can have as much mercy as
he wants to, without sinning.
Yes many places in scripture speak of God's judgement. The writers of
scripture were obliged to say what they were inspired to say. I am
reminded of God's message to us in the book of Jonah. Jonah was
obliged to pronounce judgement on Nineveh.
Jonah 3:1-4
Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying,
"Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message
that I tell you." So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the
word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three
days' journey in breadth. Jonah began to go into the city, going a
day's journey. And he cried, "Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be
overthrown!"
Yet, that did not happen. God has great mercy.
You remind me of Jonah, who got upset when Nineveh was not overthrown.
Except Jonah said that he knew that God would show mercy on Nineveh.
And Jonah 4:11 goes on to tell us what God said:
"... And should not I pity Nineveh, that great city, in which there
are more than a hundred and twenty thousand persons who do not know
their right hand from their left, and also much cattle?"
When it comes to having mercy, mercy is always possible with God. It is
not against his nature. When it comes to mercy the writers of scripture
were right to say, "With God all things are possible!"
