It was you, you dickhead. You told me it was the only way to run a
Windows machine on a Linux network. If that's not fabulous, what is?

RG> Unfortunetly it is also about the only means of filesharing
RG> between Linux and Windows available, as such, we just learn to

 You just said it again!

 Fabulous!

RG> FTP is OK, but it doesn't have the same drag 'n' drop from the
RG> desktop usability that the SMB shares have.

It really is fabulous. I just open the Network box and an Explorer
box, and I can drag and dtrop all over the place, just like the real
thing. What shits me, is that Linux won't give me a writeable share of
the Windows drives on the Linux machine. I get to read them, but
they're locked to root on the Linux machine, and I can't log on as
"root" from the Windows machine.

RG> Example, we have all of our MP3 files stored in a directory on
RG> one of our Linux boxes. We share this directory using NFS
RG> shares with our other linux boxes, as well as SMB shares for
RG> the windoze boxes. This way we can play these MP3 files using
RG> any media player on any of our machines (Windoze or Linux).
RG> This wouldn't be possible if FTP was our only option as we'd
RG> need to FTP the files from the linux box to the windoze box
RG> before we could play them.

And it's quick, too. Utterly fabulous.

Regards,
Bob
