> Hi all, RG> I'm not all. Just one. :-) Hi one (just)... > Everyone tells me that Samba is fabulous, RG> Fuck, I've never heard anyone call Samba Fabulous before. It is RG> probably the most complex, difficult to configure and RG> unreliable peice of network/fileshare software that I've had RG> the misfortune to use. Weren't you the one (just) who recommended it? RG> Unfortunetly it is also about the only means of filesharing RG> between Linux and Windows available, as such, we just learn to RG> live with it. RG> I'm sure that no one really LIKES it though. Add me to the list... RG> Who are these dickheads that told you it was fabulous? A dickhead called Rod, in SA, I think... Actually, it seems to work quite well. I'd give odds that a genuine genius wrote it, lost interest once it worked (as is the genius wont), and a certified dickhead wrote the manual for him, only half-aware fo what the fuck it was. I'm actually past that now. I can make the bugger sit up and beg... but when it comes to permissions, SAMBA defers to Linux itself, which I begin to understand, also defers to any *other* system such as DOS. It's driving me mad (whoop, whoop whoop!) trying to make Linux let me edit my files on the Windows drives. So far, a hardware firewall and router is looking pretty good, and to HELL! with fucking Linux.
