no... any damage at all, any clue that gives away the presence of the
virus shortens the potential lifecycle of the virus and the virus
doesn't get to spread as far... virus writers like to hear that some
scanner somewhere is cleaning up an epidemic of their virus on the other
side of the world... viruses that give away their presence don't easily
get to the other side of the planet, let alone cause epidemics there...
the reason is if the virus gives away it's presence, it doesn't have as
much time to spread, it may never even get past the computer it's
presently giving away it's presence on...
virus writers have been aware of this for a number of years now... they
like to hear that their viruses are spreading far and wide, and they
know it just isn't going to happen if they put destructive code in it...
