HI Barbara,
Nice to meet you. My message was about the Sun conures. I'd asked
Kathy about them I think. I'd always wanted a Sun, but they were so
expensive I didn't think I'd ever have one. Then I saw an ad for them for
$175. Called about a week later th inking it would be older bird. He had
afew breeding pairs and they were on eggs again and he said he had 3 that
were 3-4wk. old and two that were from the same cluth that were 6 mo. old. I
called back the next week and made a definite app't. for the nex t morning.
I took a friend with me and we got there just before lunch. If he had it
sold or wanted to keep it, he had ample time to say so. He didn't. When we
went into that building there were other birds there that talked an one of
those baby Sun's tried to say something. It happened to be the younger one,
so that's the one I wanted. The other was more colored out and when I asked
about the ages he said they were 2 mo. apart, then that they were one month
apart, but were from the same clutch. (Rig ht!). We were out there for quite
a while as I was making friends with the lesser sulfur crested Cockatoo male
he'd just gotten to resell. If I had the money, I'd have brought him home!
Then he takes us into the house and showed us the babies he was ha ndfeeding.
They were Not from the same clutch either. Two were and one was older and
had feathered. He said straight out that 2 of those were sold, but the lady
hadn't seen them, so I could have my pick if I wanted one of those. I didn't
want to wait, so we went back the building where the older birds were after
seeing the other adult birds in the house. He made it plain they were both
for sale, but then when I picked the younger bird, that's when he got upset.
I think he just wanted to move the old er one out. I don't know. Anyway,
when it was all over, I asked him again how old the bird was because I was
thoroughly confused by now and never did get a straight answer. He just
tried to talk me out of it. The one I got is probably 4 mo. old, but could
be 5 mo. The other one he gave from 5 to 6 to 7 mo. Never having seen baby
Sun's before I couldn't tell exactly from the amount of color. Anyway Tiki
is doing very well, will get on my hand inside her cage now and has never
offered to bite hard. In fact, she tries to get me to feed her sometimes.
I got it in Fountain, FL. It's about 90 miles west and south of
Tallahassee. His birds were healthy and pretty; but he just changes his
story a lot.
Tiki is getting very noisy and loud. If I leave the room she
hollers or if she hears my voice in another room. She is trying to talk
though. (I don't know that it's a she).
The peach front is much smaller and not nearly as noisy and loud,
although Tiki is a bad influence on him. He is definitely a male (according
to the lady who sold him to me) and a year old. He talks a little bit, but
not clearly. A little girl had him as a pet. He's a character. He'll
knock on his own perch and then say "Come In".
Ponce de Leon, FL. is on Hwy. 90 about 100-120 west of Tallahassee.
It's a very small place. I'm in a small town, but bigger than that 90 miles
west of Tallahassee.
I think that got all your questions. If I missed one, just ask
again. Love hearing from breeders, owners. My house is not nearly as quiet
as it was with just the African Grey. He tries to quiet them down by getting
them to talk. Hopefully som eday that will work!!
