I spoke with the crew at Legacy a week or two ago about the same thing
and to pick their brains of rear speaker selection for AC-3 with the "to sub
or not to sub?" question in mind. They are undecided and waiting to see where
it all leads. The real question will be just how much bass material will
there
actually be in the rear channels. You don't want to throw a lot of money into
good quality subs for the rear if there won't be much for them to do. For now
they advise a good quality full range and wait and see.
I am going to wait and do it all at once, in a year or so. Subs, if
needed, decoder, and anything else I might need. By then we should have a
pretty good idea of the averages on bass level for the rears.
Cheers, John
