| subject: | DOS backup program w/LFN |
Hallo Leonard, LE> Well, since Win95/98 *aren't* OSes (they run on top of DOS, just like LE> older versions of Windows, it's just that MS went to a lot of trouble to LE> make this non-obvious), the LFN support *is* in the version of DOS they LE> use. But just barely. I do not want to enter an OS war, but to keep the facts straight: LFN support is _not_ built into MS-DOS 7.nn. There is absolutely no LFN suppoort when booting to a straight DOS prompt, as with BOOTGUI=0 in MSDOS.SYS. LFN support comes with loading certain WIN9n modules. There was a trick to get a "32bit LFN-aware DOS" which entailed some renaming of modules. Perhaps somebody remembers and cares to describe this again? Ostrhauderfehn, 29.
