Are the windows drives NTFS or FAT-32 ?

AIUI NTFS support is still experimental... best not to write files to it

FAT-32 (anf your dos-6 FAT-16) can be mounted to be writable by users
you need to edit /etc/fstab (or uses some config tool if you have one for
mounting partitions)

if it's a msdos or vfat filesystem what you may want is
"umask=666" on the end of
the fstab line for that partition.

(that'll let all users write to the partition)

if you onoy want "bob" to have access do "umask=600 uid=bob"

Then only bob and root will be able to read/write the windows drives.

if you want others to have read access leavve off the "umask=600"

 BL> Now comes the norty part. When in your actual Windows on the other

that's a security feature... I forget how to turn it off.

windows drives don't store ownership of files... try what I said above.

dunno what a "mime link" is see if there's a spot where you can
put  uid=bob
