DM> MD> Do you think King Crimson's
DM> MD> live in Argentina set is worth the money?
DM>I'm saving my money for Live in '69... Wouldn't mind hearing Argentina,
DM>or _Great Deceiver_ for that matter, but at least I have _USA_.
I have U.S.A. on Vinyl and purchased _Great Deciever_ last year. I
believe all of U.S.A. is included on _Great Deciever_ (I could be wrong
though) and I was actually AT the Pittsburgh show recorded at the
Stanley Theater on that set. It's a great set from my favorite
incarnation of the band. Now the Live in Argentina set, I suppose I'd
like it, but somehow I just don't think it's worth the money, as the
tunes are covered on other KC CDs I have.
DM> MD> Are you going to go see the
DM> MD> reformed Yes on tour this summer?
DM>I'd rather see the Moody Blues, personally. But then, last fall's
ull/ELP
DM>concert was the first "outdoor" show I ever paid that kind of money to
DM>attend. I enjoyed the show, but...
I'd much rather see Yes than The Moody Blues. The Moodies IMHO are
mostly boring. I got busted at a Moody Blues concert once in Pittsburgh
& spent the night in jail, but I don't think that influences my
opinion. _Yes_ I've seen 5 times, - each time with a slightly
different line-up, but always excellent. I WISH I could have seen
ELP/Tull last year, what with Emerson's right arm going bad, we may
never have a chance to see/hear him live again. I have only seen ELP
once, during the Brain Salad Surgery Tour, but they were awesome. Tull
I saw 3 times, Auqalung Tour, then Passion Play/Thick as a Brick, then
the War Child tour, at which point I felt they took a bad turn and I
lost interest in them until recently.
DM> MD> Do you think the die-hard Gentle
DM> MD> Giant fans will ever tweek that new album out of them as they
DM> MD> have so desparately been trying to on the internet for a
couple of years now?
DM>I don't know, man. Be careful what you wish for. From GG's perspective,
DM>how much money could they expect to make from such an endeavor? And why
DM>take on such a hassle for the benefit of a noisy handful of geeks unless
DM>there's some Artistic Need gnawing at somebody's guts? I have 5 or 6
Very little money, these fans are trying to fund the project themselves,
and get dudes that haven't talked to each other in years to play
together again. The artistry would be very questionable. And the way
they talk, they are practically supporting Kenny Minnear; he must be bad
off. Gary Green is supposedly playing metal in Chicago, and the Shulman
brother that was the first to quit has a flower shop somewhere in
scotland. Derek Shulman was a record exec at Polydor, but I think they
said he's retired now. That leaves one more Shulman that I don't recall
what he's doing, and the drummer John Weathers, I forget what he's doing
also. But these guys are now worlds apart musically; several of them
aren't even in music any more, and yet this group of diehard fans
insists on pushing the impossible. If their last album _Citizen_
from 1980 gives us a clue, we don't WANT to hear anything new from them;
better to treasure the early 70's gems.
DM>more GG albums than 99.9% of the people in North America, and even I don't
DM>care if they ever put out a new album.
Well, I have ALL of them, and I'd LIKE to hear an album of similar new
material, but I don't think that's what they would come up with.
DM>Am I talking about music yet? I got a chance to hear the expanded
remastere
DM>_Rainbow Concert_ from Eric Clapton. Better than I expected, and LOTS
DM>better than I feared...
I bought that recently. It's pretty good early 70's British blues-rock,
stuff my band _Blues Vision_ will probably cover, AND definitely off
topic here..
