THOSE things drive me nuts!  I bought two of them a number of years back, 
and paid very little for them,  I think it was something like $12 for both
of them.  When one got a little intermittent we tried the "take it
apart and clean it" approach,  but couldn't after that initial
disassembly establish any sort of reliable connection again between the
little board that's in there and the mylar sheets.  Interestingly enough, 
both of them failed at pretty much the same time,  even though one had seen
some pretty heavy use and the other one had sat new in the box for a while.
 Something in there deteriorated...

But after the trouble we had with the one,  when the other one got flaky I
just wasn't going to bother with it,  having plenty of keyboards around.  I
just wish I had some more of the nice tactile-feedback ones,  though, like
the IBM ones I have here and the Compaq (?) one I'm typing on at the
moment.
