Hi ho Dawn!
Thanks for the welcome mat, but I've posted here previously, although I wish,
too, that there was less Pocahantas and more DVC or WDW. Couldn't believe
the McDonald onslaught which was overwhelming for awhile! Anyways, let me
correct any misconceptions of my having had a long and glorious past in
visiting WDW. The truth be told, after 12 years of trying, my wife finally
convinced me we should take a vacation at WDW. I once went to Disneyland as
a child, but going to Florida just wasn't high on my list of things to do.
Well, to make the story short, once we got there (staying at Dixie Landings),
after seeing so much advertisement about this DVC, we decided to take a look.
Before we knew it, we were driven over in a DVC Welcome Van and received a
tour and presentation. It wasn't until a couple of months later that we
decided to become members, and did all the paperwork by mail. The first time
we got to stay at DVC was in '94 and we rented a Grand Villa (wow!). Last
year we stayed at a One-Bedroom Villa (another wow!). This year we could not
get a Grand Villa because they were all booked up, and we called maybe 5 days
into our 11 months advance reservation period! I can only imagine that it
was because of the Thanksgiving crowd (or that one family of 54 people
recently interviewed in Disney magazine that goes for Thanksgiving...).
So, I haven't gone to WDW all that often, but my wife has been to Florida
many times over the years with her family. Now she wonders what kind of
"monster" she created when she got me hooked! :-) Looks like we'll be going
most every year now...
Interestingly enough, we just got a letter from DVC saying that they just
finished another building which will probably be the last building with our
"Use Year". So, if we wanted to "Add On" to our DVC points we could, but
this will be out LAST opportunity to do so. Apparently DVC likes to keep
your points and ownership in sync with your original use year. Didn't know
that. I got out my trusty spreadsheet and worked out the numbers, but it
doesn't appear advantageous for us to "add on". We have enough since we
dinks and our families are scattered. It was hard to get our families
together for the two times! You'll have to let us know what it's like going
the first two weeks of December as we'd like to do that in 1998!
I think we qualify as Disney fanatics...
