Joan... maybe if you fill in a few more details someone will come up with
a suggestion for you. What state were you born in? When were you born?
What kind of adoption was it? (private? agency?) Have you been able to get
any non-identifying information from whoever handled the adoption?
There are often paths to follow that are very specific based on this type of
info. Post it and you could get ideas in reply.
You are right that in some cases using the "A" word (adoption) will close
