HTML is a form of SGML. SGML was inspired by IBM's GML. Neither looks
much like the SCRIPT control words, but DCF includes both SCRIPT and the
GML Starter Set (GMLSS); some people fail to make the distinction
between the two types of markup, or are even unaware that there are two
types, since many people use GML without ever seeing the underlying
SCRIPT control words.
