Good morning Mark,
HG> Yes, from the tests Ed and you have conducted that is apparently the
HG> case, even though he sees the proper sign when he writes it.
ml> FWIW: i haven't performed any tests... the synchronet bbs software
ml> is in operation over here and i've seen the filtering
ml> specifically... for each message area, there is an option "Export
ml> ASCII Only"... if this is set to yes, then control codes and >=128
ml> are converted to '.'...
OK
ml> accented characters are easy to do with the "compose" method... as i
ml> noted, they are not in the same position in the character table any
It's not as easy as finding them on the keyboard just a keypress away.
ml> more... only if CP437 or CP850 are used for the most part... the
ml> problem is that linux doesn't use those old code pages any more...
ml> the main thing i miss is easily being able to see and use the line
ml> and box drawing characters we've used for our bbs menus and ansi
ml> drawings... that is the greatest loss at this point...
Those characters are also used in my BBS. All of them are not available
on CP850 but CP437 has a full set of them.
Have a nice day,
Holger
