 If we could have afforded it my kids would be going private too.  But
 homeschooling was my best choice at the time.  I have seen my kids get
 closer together over it though.  Unfortunately Jeremy had a really bad
 day yesterday.  He was so distruptive and violent.  He blew up at every-
 thing possible and the mouth was unbelievable.  No swearing or anything
 just really beligerant.  Not so much with me, but with his brothers and
 sisters.  God, I can't wait for my husband to get this new job.  Some
 insurance right now will help me get him in better control.  I know he
 needs to go on meds.  I haven't done a bad job, but he needs more help
 than just behavioral modification.  Well I bet ya today will be a good
 day cause yesterday was so bad.  
 He's also just recently asked me to take him to the doctor so he can get
 some meds to sleep.  He does not go to sleep until 4 or 5 in the morn.
 Now Melatonin works great on my mom, but you aren't suppose to give that
 to kids and it says on the lable it hasn't been tested with kids.  Every
 few months his body peters out and he falls asleep at 7 or 8 for the nite.
 And if he has to get up before he goes to bed and go to the bathroom, he
 runs there and back.  This energy gets worse at nite.  To sit on the couch
 the kid has to jump there.  He doesn't consider these things unacceptable.
 He will say, "what, I'm just going to the bathroom" , or "I'm just sitting
 down".  He fights me on these things.  He considers me picking on him over
 something trival.  And when you stop him to talk he listens for two seconds
 or words, which ever comes first, and walk out of the room.  Not that he
 is being impolite, but a second pause in your voice and he assumes you are
 done.  His brain races so fast I can hardly keep up with it.
 Also he doesn't get hungry until way after supper.  He eats really funny.
 Like what he likes one day he doesn't like another.  Of course, we never
 get that one to coincide with what I am fixing.  
 This is why I believe he needs meds so bad.  I have helped him all I can
 without it.  Jonathon on the other hand is not hyper anymore and he my have
 never been.  Originally we thought he was ADHD, but that is not the case.
 He is ADD.  His hyperness either went away at about 10 or which I believe
 was caused by his inability to function at his age level.  More of a pscho-
 logical thing.  He does well without the meds.  He was on meds for about
 6 months in the first grade and had alot of special help teaching him to
 focus and stay on task.  He had alot of help in these areas.  The next
 year that he was off the meds he did so well.  Of course, than we changed
 schools and things went downhill again.  I believe if he would have stayed
 in the other school, they would have taught him more on how to handle 
himself.
 I know alot of people don't believe you can teach an ADD/ADHD child to focus
 without meds, but they did it.  They worked very close with him and used
 behavioral modification, to help him succeed with it.  They took all his
 faults, such as handwriting, focusing, getting tasks finished and worked on
 these things. The teacher gave him motivation to do his very best.  She only
 rewarded him with words, but that meant so much. He had 3 special ed 
eachers
 working with him.  One was a male, and I believe, was his favorite.  He
 taught him handwriting.  He was also psychologist and a very good one and
 head of the Special Ed Dept in the school district. They could not grasp
 his LD because it was not Specific.  One math test would be high, while
 another one simuliar was low.  Same with other things.  They later concluded
 that Jonathon is visual and mental.  That he can derive an answer, but not
 tell you how he got it.  And that is IQ score probably not ever be anywhere
 near accurate to determine.
