Sounds like a USB driver setup issue.

I use a number of them, one with a card reader and additional USB
ports, one which turns the card into a USB stick, and one which acts
like a drive. I purchased them by watching the sale flyers for
Staples, Future Shop and the Source for sales and promotional
introductions. With software my Palm Tungsten E2 also acts as a card
reader.
