I can program too, and my test shows 20 (actually, it shows even less, but
that's likely because of device drivers).

You likely have device drivers that are increasing the number of file
handles available to all processes.  Try booting off your OS/2 3.0 floppies
and pressing escape at the first prompt after reading the second disk, and
then run your program again.  I bet it shows <= 20 then. BFN.  Paul.
