New ones _should_ come packed with grease, and have rubber 'seals' on each
end of the housing. Easy enough to slide the cable through the housing and
make sure they didn't forget the grease, but the inner cable is usually too
short to get grease to the center section of the cable. The most important
part is to get a _bunch_ of grease on the two to four inches that go
through the 'seal' near where it attaches to the frame. The seals don't
really seal on the spiral wound cable, so a bit of heavy grease there helps
keep water from getting into the high end of the cable. I normally use
plain old chassis grease.

     Good luck... M.
